Hi please can someone advice the approx price for this journey and advice if it is easy to get a taxi back from the belem area.

Did you know that there is a tram/streetcar to and from Belem that stops close to the entrance to the cruise dock. It's about a 10 minute journey and the cars operate until around 1am.
Details at http://www.carris.pt/en/index.php look for tram number 15 There is a system map under the heading 'downloads' Hope that helps.

im put of and nervous about using the tram as i have read alot about how the pickpocketers target this service.

No worries. Those... they concentrate on tram 28 which is the most touristic. Anyway, keep your belongings thight to you and alert, nothing will happen.
