| Kuwait | What to do on the week end in Kuwait Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 05:09 AM UTC
Hi Guys
I think this has been coverd before, but I don't seem to be able to find the answer anymore, so sorry if you have answered it before, but I realy would appreciate your comments. I understand the week end in Kuwait is Friday-Saturday, is there much open for the tourist to do? i.e go out to one of the islands. I understand the flea market is open, do the other souks close? Thanks Maril2 |

Hi there
I thought Kuwait still observed the Thursday/Friday weekend in line with Saudi Arabia (but it could have changed to Fri/Sat like other contries in the M. East). You can do most tourist stuff on the weekend (as this is when we did ours as my husband was off work) but beware that some shops will have restricted hours on Fridays as it's the Holy Day and you can't visit the Grand Mosque then. On Fridays, things may open late afternoon such as the souqs (as I remember). Friday is popular for brunch. The Friday Market will be open (as it opens on other days, not just on Fridays).

G'day Chizz
Many thanks for your comments. Some people think we are crazy for wanting to spend 4 nights / 5 days in Kuwait, and so I find your "in a nutshell" comment most helpfull, as I think there must be things we can do to fill in the time. Anyway, once again thanks heaps. Cheers Maril2

All the malls, leissure parks, stores will be opened on the weekend in Kuwait (Friday and Saturday) and the opening hours will be extended to the midnight for the big malls. Most of the stores will be closed on the Friday morning and everything will be opened from 4-5PM. Go to the malls or Salmiya area from 4PM, you will be trapped in the traffic at Arabic Gulf Street during weekend nights. Flea market will be opened from Thursday evening to Satuday evening now. Going to Falaika island will be a good option too. You have to book your ferry few days earlier for the fast ferry. It will be nearby the Starbuck of Marina Crescent Side. The other ferries (3hours ride instead of 45 minutes) will be in Salmiya area, nearby the Scientific Center. Ask the direction for KPTC ferries to the Failaka island. Happy planning.

Hi Saly
Thank you for your reply. They are always very helpfull. Also your page on Kuwait has helped heaps with planning, so thank you for taking the time to post on it. If it is OK with you, I may VT mail you closer to the time of our trip, in relation to specific questions in relation to the airport, as I am just a little confused at the moment in relation to arriving (i.e. what is where and where to go to get what) Also, have booked at the Swiss Bell Plaza Hotel, I think it was the one you suggested before. Cheers Maril2
