| Singapore | Bus 170 to Johor Bahru Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 04:48 AM UTC
Hello,
We are going to Singapore in May and would like to visit Johor Bahru for half day. Our hotel is New Seven Storey, 229 Rochor road. How far is the bus 170 terminal to the hotel and will we have to go to bus terminal or can we get on along the bus route. For EZ link card for bus ride, will we have to tap the card every time get out at checkpoints. Are city square, Kotataya bus station , Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque and JB city center in walking distance from Malaysian checkpoint. Thanks for any advice. Thien |

The bus terminal is about a 7 minutes walk away to NSS. The nearest bus stop however, is the bus stop in front of Fu Lu Shou complex, which is a 5 minutes walk away.
To get to Fu Lu Shou, cross North Bridge Road from your hotel to Bugis Junction along Rochor Road, and keep walking in that direction. Cross Victoria Street to Bugis Village and again, keep heading in that direction. At the end of Bugis Village, cross Queen Street, and you will reach Fu Lu Shou complex. It's basically a straight line down from NSS. Not sure about the EZ link card as I had not taken a bus to JB in a very long time. You will probably need to though. City Sqaure is within walking distance of the Malaysian checkpoint. Not sure about the rest. Just my 2 cents.... :-)

As for the EZ link card issue, yes as a rule of thumb you will have to tap in everytime you board and alight, including when you reboard the bus at the check point, likewise please remember to tap while alighting. The machine is smart enough that it doesn't deduct your fare again after the checkpoint.
City Square amd Meldrum Walk is within 7-10 min walk. To get to the Kotaraya bus station will be easier if you reboard bus 160 from the malaysian customs and will get you directly inside. Not possible to walk. I really have no idea about any mosque.

Hi Thien,
Some shops/stalls may accept Sing Dollars but you'll lose out in the exchange rate. There are many shops in which you can change Sing Dollars to Malaysian Ringgit. I think the rate is about S$1 = Rm$2.33 or there about. Beware of pickpockets in crowded places in everywhere you travel, even in Singapore. Fucai

Oh yeah, generally for converting from Singapore dollars to Malaysian Ringgit, you get slightly better rates at the money changers in Malaysia.
Just my 2 cents.... :-)
