Hi,

whats the weather in Istanbul like at the moment? I've been checking the weather reports online but they seem to vary from 15c to 25c. If anyone is out there n holiday or living there can you let me know pls.

Also is are any specific dangers i need to look out for while out there? any tourist sites i should avoid?

I beg to differ about the CNN weather reports, I have found that they are not accurate. I enjoy the www.wunderground.com and have found it very helpful on my trips around the world. IF YOU PRESS ON THE "TRIP PLANNER" BUTTON IT WILL GIVE YOU THE STATICS of ten years back, and what range these ten years give you. A great site.

It was 11ºC while I was driving an hour ago.

It is chilly. It rains in intervals. Bring your sacco, rock or parca, or rain coat with you and umbrella also. Dont forget a cap. A blue jeen like trouser will be OK. Water fest shooes. The nights are colder then day. In side the temperature is 23 outside 11 degrees. In this weather you can not sit at the side of ferry during bosphorus trip. The smell of spring is quite good. have a nice time

specific dangers?
Dont go to red light bars that usually work after 24:00. They are the alla turca nightclups. If you go there you will leave a fortune and your soul. Dont walk around the city walls alone. Dont walk at isolated places in the night. You will face all kinds of same dangers in all the great metropolis of the world such as Soho/London, San Pauli/Hamburg, Kaiserstrasse/Frankfurt. ect.
If you take the necessary steps Istanbul is very safe.

"Forbes" magazine's recent "World's Top Tourist Traps" says avoid Sultanhamet, primarily because it's crowded and awash in junky tourist wares. Instead, they recommend the unhurried Uskudar neighborhood, at the entrance to the Bosporus.

Thoughts from anybody on-scene?

Uskudar is currently a building site as they're building one of the new tunnel entrances there, Kadikoy/Moda maybe better but still building work going on there also.

I don't think Sultanahmet is a tourist trap. A few souvenir shops cannot reduce the value of this place.
In Uskudar, there are several mosques and Turkish baths of Sinan. But the sea side is a big construction site now, as Tdiver already said. If you just pass the construcion area and walk throug the narrow streets, you can find some jewels.
