| Dublin | Spending money Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 08:03 PM UTC
Ok guys I need some help. My friends and I are planning a trip for the summer of '09 'cause we're graduating. We'd be going for a week, and spending the time in Dublin and Galway. I've already figured out the prices for plane, train, hostel and all that good stuff. But I'm at a loss as to how much we should have for spending money. So would anyone have an estimate as to how much would be good to bring just for random spending? Thanks in advanced!

Since you are looking at Hostel stays, you might look into a PaddyWagon tour, http://www.paddywagontours.com/. They have open ended tours where you hop-on/off their buses, staying in hostels in towns along their routes. Since they cater to the younger crowd, they are very reasonable. The benefit is that the price includes your transportation, lodgings and breakfast, which means less out of pocket expense for you and your friend.
As to how much you will need to bring for pocket money and daily expenses, that is actually dependent on the style and habits of each individual. If you avail yourself of pub grub, roadside picnics of deli items and early bird dinners, usually between 6 & 7 pm, you can stretch your money further. My rule of thumb for just eating and spending money is 50 - 100 euros per day. I will have a better gauge of how this rule of thumb works now that the dollar has dropped once I travel over in October. Slan Beo (Take Care, Bit

Well, Ireland is expensive, I mean REALLY expensive - in 2006 Dublin was named the 10th most expensive cities in the World.
In Dublin you will pay about 4 euro for a pint, 10 euro for an ok meal, if you want fancier it gets more expensive, almost every tourist attraction is around 9 euros for a student ticket, the souvenir shopping is crazy. And I am only getting started. This year I had about 200 euro spending money for 12 days and it was extremely tight. But everything depends how do you want to live it and how long you are staying. Good luck on your trip, for any tips just check my profile or e-mail me and I will be willing to help 100%!
