Istanbul Weather and crowds in July
Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 10:49 AM UTC
Hi!
I m coming to Turkey in July and I cannot resist to make plans (even for details :-)from now... so here are my first questions about Istanbul:
How is it by the first week of July? What's the weather like? How hot and how humid? How does it feel like?
And what about crowds? Is it crowded by locals and tourists or it is empty because everybody has gone on beach holidays? (the latter for example is true for Athens during July and August). Thanx!

Merhaba!! last year was the hottest summer Turkey, (Istanbul in particular), has had for 10 years.....but as hot as it was it was still fantastic. I came to live here 15 months ago, having visited and worked here for many years. Istanbul in the summer is crowded, but then it's like that every day of the week!! However, most Istanbulians leave the heat of the City and go to their summer homes, or take day trips to the Princes Islands, which are very close to the mainland. Istanbul, although similar to Athens, is very very different. You will love either love it or hate it, if you love it, then the love affair will continue and draw you back many many times. Feel free to ask me anything else you need about this beautiful and amazing City, and the even more wonderful and diverse country of Turkey.

Take care, safe journey

Istanbul will be always crowded regardless of time or season. July probably will be hot and in August it reaches the climax so you won't suffer too much from hot and humidity. But expect some surprises as global warming has affected everything :( There will be many people taking vacations for sea holidays, but still it will be very crowded especially on touristic areas. For things to do, restaurants to try and other details, have a look through my page and let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy Istanbul :)

Hi Elena,

It will be hot and humid, but not more than Athens.

Istanbul is always crowded. The number of people who can afford to go resorts is very limited accordingly 15-million population.

Cheers.

The schools and Universtity will be at sommer holidays. For that reason the traffic will be more friendly. Yes it is true many Turks will go to summer holidays. But tourists will come. Istanbul is always crowdy. In July all Turkey will be hot. I love that. This year We had a very very cold winter in Ankara. You will need your alla-Athens-summer suits.
