| Vienna | Vienna for 2 days Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 10:34 AM UTC
I will be in Vienna between 9th and 11th of May with my mom. I want to ask something.
1-I am a “Klimt” lover. May I see “Kiss” in Belvedere or I have to go to Oesterrich… museum? I confused. 2-How I can go to Airo Tower hotel from airport? 3-I want to see many things in 1-2 days.I think we must see Schonbrunn palace, Hofburg, Stephansdom, Belvedere. What else we MUST see in 1-2 days. 4-Is “Hunderwasser haus” far from center? Thanks for any help. |

1) I am quite sure that the Kiss is one of the 4 famous paintings that is not in Vienna anymore, but you will see it on postcards, posters, scarfs etc.
4)Hunderwasserhaus is 4 stations by tram "N" from Schwedenplatz, in Loewelstrasse, there is also the Hundertwasser Kunsthaus closeby and a ship-station my Hundertwasser. In the metro-station Spittelau there is a powerplant decorated by Hundertwasser. and on the Danube there is a also a cruiseship by Hundertwasser, doing cruises from Schwedenplatz !

"The Kiss" is at the Österreichische Galerie (Austrian Gallery), precisely the Obere Belvedere (Upper Belvedere). Schloss Belvedere consists of two main buildings housing the Österreichische Galerie. One building is the Obere Belvedere and the other is Untere Belvedere (Lower Belvedere). Check out
http://www.belvedere.at/jart/prj3/belvedere/main.j Since you are a "Klimt" lover, you should see the Secession Building (Friedrichstrasse 12) which has the 34m-long Beethoven Frieze by Klimt, based on Beethoven’s 9th symphony. Other things to see include Stephansdom, Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts; www.khm.at; 01, Maria Theresien-Platz) and the Leopold Museum (07, Museumsplatz 1), many many more...

As to the Airo Tower Hotel:
it is somewhat on the southwestern fringe of Viennas suburbs and not that easy to reach either from the airport nor from downtown.Maybe the hotel runs an airport shuttle (mail them at reservierung@airo-hotels.at, or call them tel +43 (1) 68082-249). Public transport to downtown cultural centers is available, will take you about 30-45 minutes. Have a nice stay!

3) In 1 day you won't get to see Schönbrunn and all the central sights, even in 2 days it is quite of a rush since Schönbrunn is a huge castle surrounded by a huge park and you can't take the underground to the doorstep unfortunately/thank god. It means it takes basically half a day even if you just want to snap some shots and not see the castle's interior. Besides, Belvedere and Schönbrunn are a bit similar, both castles, although Schönbrunn is way bigger. Since you're and art lover and don't have that much time, I suggest you skip Schönbrunn. Belvedere is also beautiful, the park however not as grand and green as Schönbrunn's. On the other hand, Belvedere is located closer to the city centre.
You should definitely take a tram ride on Ringstraße in order to at least get to see the most important buildings (Parliament, City Council, Opera, parts of Hofburg, Kunsthistorisches and Naturhistorisches Museum etc.), besides, Museumsquartier is well worth a visit. You have to check out Stephansdom and Graben of course, plus walk some of the narrow old streets behind Stephansdom (e.g. Domgasse in which you find Mozart-Haus). Coffee places are also MUSTs.
