| Singapore | A Couple of Days Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 02:11 AM UTC
Hi,
I'm heading to SE Asia in June/July and am going on a tour coming down through malaysia that leaves me in singapore for a couple of days before I fly home. I was just wondering what the accomodation was like for backpackers and if there were any particular places I should see? Popular bars for students as well :) ? I arrive on a thursday and leave on saturday evening, would it be best just to stay in singapore (I'm not really a big fan of cities) or is there a day/overnight trip that could take me somewhere else worthwhile? Just looking to add some excitement on a budget! Thanks |

Hi there,
If u do not fancy cities, maybe you can drop by Indonesia Island resort for 2 days 1 night stay. Depart from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal which not too far from airport (about 20 mins by taxi or might have transport from the airport) ferry journey is approximately 1 hour, nice resort with nice beach & golf course. visa on arrival @ USD$10 for Europeans. Hope the link below will be of help. SG airport http://www.changiairport.com/changi/en/index.html Resort in Indonesia http://web.bintanlagoon.com/ Have an enjoyable trip.

You could always stay on Sentosa Island - away from the crowds but close enough to vist the city and see some of the great things that Singapore has to offer.
Cheers

But be advised that Sentosa is a very expensive place to stay..if you are talking about budget travel that is. You can always dump your stuffs in a backpackers' hostel and then make your way to sentosa island for the day and return to your hostel to sleep. Singapore is a city...very city. But Singapore do have some nature reserved areas which you might want to venture though (if you are into nature that is. Tree top walks at MacRitchie Reservoir (free) or even Sungei Buloh. These places are usually off the beaten path. Singapore is also rich in culture...Arab Street, Chinatown, Little India...So try googling the places I've mentioned if you are interested though. Hope these tips helps.

maybe a 2 day 1 night trip to kukup might interest you. it's a fishing village in johor bahru. its not very developed and there's nice seafood. or maybe a short trek up some of johor mountains like belumut or lambak, this will only take u one day, there's even enuf time to squeeze in a seafood dinner in johor b4 headin back to sg.
yeah would definitely recommend arab street, little india. some parts of chinatown are too touristy but its still quite nice. these places are actually quite near the city centre. u can eat on a budget too. plenty of hawker centres around each with at least 20 food stalls. cheap and good food. they sell mostly local food with the occasional western food stall.
