| Quepos | Nightlife? Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 11:59 PM UTC
We are traveling to Quepos for a week in June with 4 kids in their 20's. We see many pictures of the Quepos Streets and read about the nightlife, but every picture of the streets or bars looks practically vacant. We're concerned they will be bored to death. Can anyone give us additional info? Thank you very much for the help!!

All up and down the road between Quepos and Manuel Antonio are hotels, restaurants and bars. There used to be a place right on the beach in Manuel Antonio called Mar Y Sombra that was the night spot on the weekends. Locals would come to the place to dance. It has been torn down because businesses can not build on the beach in Costa Rica. There is a disco in Quepos but I can not attest to what it is like. Nightlife is not a big thing in the area nor in most of Costa Rica. In the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area, there is more fun early in the AM to view wildlife then beach time and happy hour in the afternoon. The big event can be sunset viewing at a restaurant on a cliff over the ocean along the street between the two towns. There are a couple of restaurants that have live music. When you get there you may be able to find out who is playing and where. I know that a place called Bambu Jam had live music at night sometimes as did Barba Roja (both are restaurants with bars). If these folks need bars and late night happenings to keep from being bored I am not sure they will be satisfied but I can't imagine being bored in the area. They just need to switch there schedule to having fun during the day and drinking at happy hour and at dinner.

I agree, night life isn't big at all. CR is about the parks, wildlife and beaches. Quepos is the "entrance" to Manual Antonio- most beautiful park we've ever been to. On the way-from Quepos to MA you will be going up a mt/hillside w/hotel's, restaurants and bars. BUT at the top is El Avaion-rest/bar made out of an old cargo plane--plz stop and go to the second floor-the view will knock you out! Mar y Sombra is still on the beach, pretty old/dingy, offering food and drinks. Again, beautiful beaches, reasonable rentals-chaises/umbrellas, fantastic waves. Canopy Safari-in Quepos-excellent zip line. Iam jealous-have fun
