| Copenhagen | round trip from US with stopover along the way... Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 05:19 PM UTC
Can anyone say if this is possible? I would like to buy a round trip ticket to Helsinki from US but stop over in Copenhagen for about 15 days before continuing to Helsinki. I would want to fly home from Helsinki back to US. Will the airlines arrange a round trip ticket with a stopever such as this?

As long as the airline you choose has the correct destinations, yes.
You have to ask for an 'open jaws' ticket, or multi-destination ticket. Be aware that these are usually more expensive.

It should be possible with stopovers, as long as money is no object for you. Is it practical? That I couldn't tell you without knowing which airport you're trying to fly from. For your information, you can get nonstop flights to Copenhagen from Chicago-O'Hare (ORD), Newark (EWR), Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), and Washington-Dulles (IAD). SAS, Blue1, and Finnair fly nonstops from Copenhagen to Helsinki.
If you're booking the ticket online, choose the "multiple destinations" option. Then choose three legs for your ticket: from your original airport in the US (???) to Copenhagen (CPH) on your desired departure date; from Copenhagen (CPH) to Helsinki (HEL) for 15 days later; and from Helsinki (HEL) to your home airport (???) on your desired return date. Because your travel is 15 days apart, this ticket will likely cost more than a round-trip ticket to Helsinki. Consider also flying "Open Jaw" into Copenhagen and out Helsinki, making your way from Copenhagen to Helsinki via ground travel (for example, train to Stockholm and overnight ferry to Helsinki... BTW, why not stop a day or two in Stockholm on the way if your schedule allows?). You could also see if you can find a budget flight from Copenhagen to Helsinki on Blue1 (http://www.blue1.fi/en) or Finnair (http://www.finnair.com/finnaircom/wps/portal/finn Enjoy your trip! Mark

Although it will cost you a couple of hours, I would not mix the tickets.
I would buy a round trip ticket to Helsinki. I would then buy a round trip ticket to Copenhagen. You could time it so you leave for Copenhagen about three hours after you arrive in Helsinki. Sounds complicated, but it could end up being much simpler. If possible use the same airline ... if not use different ones.

tickets from the US to copenhagena re currently quite cheap, so i would buy a return ticket to there and then a cheap ticket to helsinki from copenhagen.
in addition to the US airports allready mentiones, DELTA also flies from Atlanta to Copenhagen directly every day. i just stepped off that plane a few hours ago myself and i was quite happy with the service.

My mistake, Claus! "After further review," :) Delta Flight 68 travels nonstop daily from Atlanta to Copenhagen, and Delta Flight 69 makes the return trip.
But please do note I never claimed my list was inclusive... ;o)

that is why the forum is so good.
we are all here to add our little bits of info and i think that there has been some very good answers to this question so far. it´s not a matter of correcting eachother, but adding a bit of extra info. noone knows everything even if both you and me look so bloody clever :O)

Funny you should mention that, Claus... I tried to explain much the same thing to someone else in another forum some weeks ago. The goal here in the forums is to provide the most accurate information possible, not to "one-up" someone, nor to take "pride of authorship" if someone says something you wrote isn't 100% correct.
Now I must find out why the CPH website didn't mention any direct flights to Atlanta today!! (j/k ;o) Cheers, Mark

Well, I'll take personal testimony over any website report. I'm glad you made it home, especially since it's less than 2 months til Euromeet! 8)

Then you'll be an expert on where to go by the time Sara and I arrive on Friday afternoon. We'll be thinking of the "pre-meet" revelers while we're hiking in the Swiss Alps. :o)
And speaking of mistakes, I made a rather dreadful one trying to buy train tickets to Karlsruhe. Fortunately, the VT community in general (and VT member christine.j in specific) came to my rescue and helped me fix my error. I realize we're going a bit off-topic, but it is yet another example of the VT community coming together to get the answer right rather then worrying about *who* got the "right answer."

all i have to do is take 15 other people along with me and make sure they are happy all the time.

I HATE YOU!!! ;) I'm just joking, of course... but I most certainly envy you, Claus! From my perspective, you have a dream job: to get paid to bring others along on what you love to do most. Granted, you have to keep the others happy as well, but it's still travel, and a (most satisfying) living.
