Stockholm dinner events in Stockholm
Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 03:22 PM UTC
Our Forum IPsphere, is hosting a meeting in Stockholm. I need to plan a dinner event for the night of May 20th. I've been researching ideas over the internet but I live in the USA and its difficult since I've never been to Stockholm. From what I can see, its a beautiful city surounded by water. I was wondering if you could recommend 3-4 ideas of something a large group can do, approx. 40 people. Maybe a dinner cruise, great restaruant etc. We're interested in something historic to your city.

Could you please help with ideas, names etc. Thank you so much,
Michelle

Maybe a dinner cruise around the Stockholm's archipelago can be of interest? If so, check out http://www.strommakanalbolaget.se/EN/restaurang/dinner-cruise/index.htm

Take a look at Ulriksdals Wärdshus, beautifully located by the Royal Castle Park Ulriksdal and the waters of Edsviken. Its not in the city centre but it is worth while the journey, appr. 20 min from T-Centralen.

Here, you get wonderful food and have beautiful woods to stroll, or walk by the water. You can use the garden for crocket, visit the famous gardens and the Orangerie or try cooking together with one of the chefs. Or, try both wine tasting and cooking. One of Stockholms oldest theatres, Confidencen, is also on walking distance.

The dinner-rooms are beautiful. There are different sizes of rooms, nicely decorated, both Swedish tradition and contemporary designers.

Ulriksdal serves traditional Swedish smörgåsbord on Sat, Sun, ´la carte lunches and dinners and set menues (3 and 6 courses, nice cooking, following the season. really nice and professional staff, homely, elegant and rustique feeling to it all.

Good luck!

Hi Michelle,
If you have not booked any hotels or resturants for the 20th of May you need to hurry up, the hotel situation in Stockholm is crazy.

I would recommend two resturants in the Old Town (Gamla Stan) in the neighbourhood of the royal castle.

The resturants are,

Pontus by the Sea
e-mail: bythesea@pontusfrithiof.com
Reservations: Phone: +46 - 8 202095 Mon-Fri 10.00-18.00 (GMT+2)

http://www.pontusfrithiof.com/bts/main.php

Von der lindeska valvet
e-mail: info@vonderlindeskavalvet.com
Reservations: Phone: +46 - 8 411 55 38 Tue - Sat After 17:00 (GMT+2)

http://www.vonderlindeskavalvet.com

I think that both could cater for 40 guests, Pontus by the Sea is the best one, Van der lindeska valvet arranges ghost walks in the old town which might be fun, http://www.stockholmghostwalk.se/.

Hi again!
I made a tip out of my Ulriksdals Wärdshus reply to you. I have added some more info + images. Check my travel pages!

I also thought that a tour to Birka (on the UNESCO World Heritage list) may be a nice thing to do. Birka was the centre of the prosperous Mälaren valley in the Viking Age. The town was founded in the eighth century and today we can visit it on spot on Björkö island. Close by lies Hovgården, on the neighbouring island of Adelsö, with an unusually large number of remains of Viking Age kings, chieftains, and farmers. Together Birka and Hovgården make up an archaeological set illustrating the elaborate trading networks of Viking-Age Europe and their influence on Scandinavian history.

You need to check ferry-lines and opening-hours. Birka is closed in winter time. Here follows a couple of good websites:
General information on Birka:
