Prague Train connection
Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 06:08 AM UTC
Taking the cue from GyuriFT, we are taking a train from Prague ( on a friday end of April) and detrain at Bratislava to pick up some real-deal tickets to continue the journey to Budapest.

I am afraid that if the earlier trains from Prague are full and we arrive late at Bratislava, we won't be able to get onto a train to Budapest, since it is weekend.

How likely for that to happen? Is there something that i should do to avoid getting into difficulties ?

Secondly, are the train tickets valid on all trains or just specific ones ?

Thank you for your help.

Czech trains are almost never full, if so you can stand. The only exception is SC Pendolino train leaving Prague for Bratislava at 18.23 where seat reservation is mandatory. You can buy a seat reservation for 3 euros. Buying tickets to Budapest in Bratislava only worths if you come back as well (return tickets are cheaper than one way). If you need just single tickets it's better to buy straight PRG-Budapest (same high TCV fare as from Bratislava). For teturn trip PRG-BUD it's good to buy a CITY STAR to Bratislava and there the Budapest ticket, in fact it's almaost the same price as for one way PRG-BUD.Tickets are valid on all trains.

Thank you Pida for the info. That's ease the fear of getting stranded, for a novice train traveller.

You're welcome. Check out www.jizdenka.cz - the fare calculator (switch to english in down left corner) and www.idos.cz for train times.
