Yellowstone National Park June bigs

We are planning on camping yellowstone late June. How are the mosquitoes and what about the biting flies? Are they only bothersome at dusk or are they around all day long. I've camped in both situations and will never camp where the mosquitos are bad again. Not worth it. Any recommendations on campgrounds inside the Park?

Mosquitoes in any venue are generally (though not exclusively) active at dusk. They hone in on carbon dioxide (exhaled breath) and perspiration to target prey. They tend to feed before dark so they can then rest overnight and digest their blood meal. Just bring a repellant with a high DEET content (DEET being the only proven counter-measure) and use it as necessary.

Let's put it this way, I am sort of a local, living 50 miles away from the park for 9 months of the year, and I have never been bothered by mosquitos or biting flies, however, that doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't there. As already mentioned, if they are around dusk is the worst time.

For camping suggestions visit my accommodation tips. I have covered both the hotels and the campgrounds. I would just be copying and pasting a lot of info from there to here, so it is easier for you to just look at my tips. Be sure that you make reservations very early, if you choose a campground where you can make reservations. If you are going to be in the park for a number of days, I would suggest camping in a couple of different locations, as everything is so far apart. This would put you a little closer to some of the main sites you will want to see.
