Vienna Overnight Train from Vienna to Prague
Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 08:08 PM UTC
I've been looking keenly at other transportation posts, but haven't been able to find any information on the overnight train from Vienna to Prague (train 202 from Wien Sued. to Praha).

Does anyone have any indication on prices and couchette/sleeper supplements?

I know it would be cheaper likely to go back to Bratislava (I will be in Bratislava before going to Vienna) and take a train from there, but I'm going to be short on time and would much prefer an overnight, and as far as I can tell, an overnight train would be the only option (no bus).

Thanks!

There are many trains from Wien to Praha. You may watch on the link below and choose the best option for you:

but it is the 202 you want, the others are too quick, if you're buying your ticket in Canada you can get a price here, http://www.raileurope.ca/canada/index.htm if that's no good the man in seat 61 might know.

the distance between these 2 cities is simply too short for a nighttrain and a couchette that helps you tom save money and time for a hotelroom. I only found one train leaving around 11.00pm , you change train at midnight in Breclav and arrive in Prague at 3.30 am or so...

I was referring specifically to is the overnight train #202, which does indeed exist: leaves Wien Sued. at around 10:30 pm, and arrives in Praha at 6:30 am.

RailEurope inflates prices drastically, so I was wondering if anyone from Europe had experience on prices for that route.

Thanks!

yes, #202 leaving Vienna at 22.33 arriving in Breclav at 23.33 and there you have to change to another train EN 376 at 00.02 and it arrives at 03.32 in Prague.
I cannot see that it has wagons going through, so this connection is not really good to get some sleep as well

I got a reply from emailing OEBB.AT:

It would cost €79.20 (including ticket, reservation and place in 3-bed sleeper).

Thanks!

Ilon, I've been looking for the same info, so thank you! If you don't mind, I was wondering if oebb informed you if you could make these train reservations online/by phone, or only in Europe, and how much ahead of time they should be made. Also.. do you happen to know the cost of the evening train that leaves Vienna at 6:33pm and gets intp Prague at 11:10pm? We are trying to price out if the overnight train would save us money, or if we should just book the hotel in Prague for another night. Thank you, I appreciate it!

the trainprice would be the same, just in case of a nighttrain you can book a couchette for some extra money or take a sleep in an ordinary seat for no extra charge.
