Linderhof is actually nearer Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles are near Fuessen. Which do you want to visit ? A web site for the Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau Castles is: www.hohenschwangau.de. The site will have links that explain transport, the ticketing process, travel up to the castle, and the tour itself, among other things. Gary

I'm not sure how much I can really help you with Linderhof. I've been there twice, but both times during the middle of winter. We actually were the only group at the castle the second time. During the winter the gardens, the Kiosk, and the Grotto were not open. Linderhof itself is actually quite small, but is worth the visit. The tour is probably about 30 minutes for the palace itself. The length of time you spend on the outside areas is up to you if you travel on your own. If you want to see several things in that area, ( the Ettal Monastery, Oberammergau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain), you are almost better off renting a car if you are pressed for time. The bus connections in that area are somewhat problematic. The tours tend to split Linderhof, and the monastery into different tours. I have links for the area. Today though, both the notes, and my thoughts are scattered, lol. I can send them later on if you would like. Gary

Linderhof palace can be visited only by guided tour and it will depend on the waiting-list, how long you have to wait for your turn.
the various grottos and special details of the park can be seen on your own, on the total maybe 2 hours. 1 of the grottos is also by guided tours only, but waitingtime is less than in the palace.
So you should calculate at least 3 hours, maybe more, to see everything that you will see on my Linderhof-page.

Two hours is enough to see the castle, but not the surrounding grounds. Also, if there is a long line, you may have to wait for your castle tour to start and that can be time consuming. We had to wait about 20 minutes and were there in May. Possibly there will be no lines in April but I can't say that for sure. It would be nice to plan a little more than 2 hours simply because the grounds of the castle are spectacular and well worth a visit. However, if all you want to see is the castle, you will have time. I assume you have transportation arranged.

Have a lovely trip; it's a beautiful castle.

I'm sure Globetrott's Linderhof page will be a very good one. I threw some links together that might be helpful: (1) Linderhof: www.schloesser.bayern.de/englisch/palace/objects/li_schl.htm, (2) Garmisch-Partenkirchen: www.garmisch-partenkirchen.de, (3) Oberammergau: www.oberammergau.de/ot_e, (4) Ettal Monastery: www.kloster-ettal.de, and the Zugspitze: www.zugspitze.de. If you wish to stay in Garmisch, the tourist office can help with suggestions for both hotels and dining. Gary
