Departamento de Montevideo international drivers lisence stolen

my int. licence was stolen today in buenos aires. report was made to police etc. i was planning and have reservation thru thrifty at the airport for a car rental. i have not been able to contact them. does anyone know if this will f,,,,, up my driving privalages here. will i still be able to rent with my state licence and passport. sorry for the typos. i am using the hotel computer. thanks goneto

There's nothing special about an International Driving Permit; it's just a piece of paper that translates your real license. You can probably get another one wherever you are from whichever organization issues them locally.

It may not even be required, depending on where you'll be driving. Argentina does require them, I believe, but most countries in South America do not.

I don't know it for certain but I'm almost sure you won't need it. Just use your regular driving license.

International passport may be essential when you become resident to a foreign country, but if you are just a tourist, your original driving license would be just fine. When you rent the car, they will ask for your passport and credit card, not your driving license :)
