| Taipei | Shopping in Taipei City Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 03:37 AM UTC
Hi there, I'm totally new to this forum but would really love it if someone can provide some suggestion on places to shop in Taipei City. I'll be flying to Taiwan in May and will be spending about 3 days in Taipei City and another 5/6 ard Taiwan.
I plan to visit CKS Memorial Hall, SYS, National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 and TungShan Temple during my visit in Taipei - this is solely for sightseeing purpose For shopping, I would like to visit Wu Fen Pu and Shilin Market. Can someone help me out on when is the best time to visit this places? I heard that Wu Fen Pu is only open for retailers on Friday, anyone can confirm this? Any other suggestion on where to shop best? Really appreciate all the help here. Thanks in advanced. :) |

If you're after cheap clothes, shoes or fashion accessories then the Shilin night market is indeed the place to go. There are other night markets in the city but this is by far the biggest, and most of the merchandise are the same anyway. There are also upscale stores that sell famous brands at the first 4 floors of Taipei 101. The National Palace museum also has a store that sell native souvenirs and handicrafts that you may not find elsewhere. Interestingly, while there are a lot of stores in the city, I had a hard time looking for souvenirs even in the night markets.

HI,
Wufenpu is open everyday from about 3pm to midnight. Theonly day not good to go is Monday when they attend to their Wholesale clients from all over Taiwan. Best time to visit Shihlin will be after 6.30pm. After Wufenpu (Later that 6.30pm) you can cross the bridge at Songshan station to the Raohe street Night Market for shopping and good local food. There are signs there to guide you. For ideas on when and where to go,you can see some guidelines on Itineraries : http://www.freewebs.com/crazyazn/
