Hello Anita! I would recommend the Ibis Hotels, because they have a decent price despite the central location.
Here the sites in order to controll. Ibis Budapest Heroes Square http://www.hoteltelnet.hu/en/ibis-budapest-heroes- Ibis Budapest Emke - Ibis Budapest http://www.hoteltelnet.hu/en/hotelemke/ Ibis Budapest Centrum - Ibis Budapest http://www.hoteltelnet.hu/en/hotelibiscentrum/ Greetings. Laszlo

I have stayed at Ibis Budapest Vaci út and can recommend it. You can walk from the hotel to Heroes' Square and City Park or you could take the subway to the city center. The station is Dozsa Gyorgi út and it's located basically in front of the parking lot and the reception.

The Ibis Hotels get a lot of positive posts so I looked them up. I wasn't impressed with any of the locations. But from the reviews they must be real nice. Be careful, there is a difference between Vaci utca (great location) and Vaci ut (not so great a location). If you only have three nights, and if you have gone through all the trouble and expense of getting to Budapest, I would suggest you find a hotel very close to evening points of interest so you can enjoy, if nothing else the streets, as late into the evening as you can. For that I would stay near Vaci utca or on Andrassy. The other post of the apartments behind the Opera House sounds like a good idea. When I am in town and on a budget I stay at the Hotel Pest (about 100 euros) so I can spend the evening on and around Andrassy. You would get the same from the cheaper apartments mentioned. And both locations are near the M1 subway that will take you down near Vaci utca, Chain Bridge, Parlament, etc. during the day.

I've stayed in Vaci út and it worked for me and my man, and we stayed 2 nights. We didn't spend more than 10-15 minutes going to where we wanted to go (be it subway or walking to the City Park/Heroes' Square). However, I do agree that looking for accommodations close to Vaci utca or Andrassy avenue might work better for you.

CORRECTION: None of the Ibis locations looked "Bad". I just suggest, even if you have to pay a little extra, maximize your location if you arent staying long. This is a city best "experienced" and not "visited".

Now you have to get Opera tickets, or/and tickets to the Operett Theater. If "Mozart!" is still playing it is fantastic (has very little to do with classical music). When you get to town go to the subway entrance in front of the opera house and get a 3 day pass. Its good for all the city transportaton and cheap. Since you are so close you could go to Belcanto for dinner. Sure there are better places, but it's still an experience not to be missed. Then ..... oh yea and ..... well first..... youll love .... ahhhh never mind. Have fun.

A lot of the tourists show up at the opera not dressed too well. They usually have tickets in the cheap seats. The locals generally dress very well for the evening. Same is true at the operetta. My wife and I always drag along some nice clothes and get seats in one of the boxes (and we generally travel with two carry on bags). Its generally our one nice night out - that and dinner. There is a lot to do in Budapest, but if you miss the old world culture you have missed a big part of what makes Budapest special. It can be the opera, ballet, operetta, or symphony; but they are all experiences that help make Budapest a special place. Unlike places like Vienna, they are still authentic parts of life in Budpaest and not just tourist shows - so make the experinece complete.
