Strasbourg Train from Strasbourg to Brussels
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 07:11 PM UTC
I wanted to take a train from Strasbourg to Brussels, and I wanted to buy a Eurail Benelux-France pass, but I'm not sure if this train would pass through Germany or not (thus requiring me to buy an extra ticket). I can't find the exact route map anywhere! Does anyone know if the Strasbourg-Brussels train passes through Germany? Or does it remain only in France/Benelux? Thanks so much for your help!

To answer your questions:
- The Strasbourg - Brussels train does not go through Germany. It does go through Luxembourg though.
- The Benelux - France pass is probably a wast of money for this trip. A ticket for this train will cost you 67 EURO when bought on the spot. There are no advance purchase deals on this train.

Even less via Luxembourg:

Strasbourg-Bettembourg-Luxembourg-Sterpenich(Fr) is 38.30 euro, 241 km
Sterpenich(Fr)-Brussel = 24.80 euro, 204 km

Total: 63.1 euro

That's the way the EC-296 goes, so on the EC-296 the price should be 63.1 Euro.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR RAILPASS (AND NOWHERE ELSE).

Folks, why this obsession with railpasses? They are all rip-off!

Well, a railpass is very usefull when the purpose of your trip is to do as much train travel as possible. For this reason the railpasses are quite popular with railfans.
