| Verona | First DIY holiday with a 15 month old Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 03:33 PM UTC
Hello all,
Chanced upon this website and was super impressed by how helpful everyone is. My hubby and I have booked a nice self catering apartment in VIA GAETANO TREZZA 49 for one week. We plan to use Verona as a base and explore in a relaxing manner the surrounding beautiful places. 1. Would love some tips on how much time to spend in Verona itself and where else to go that is not too far to travel with a baby and pushchair. 2. Any good places to eat around the apartment? We both love italian food and honestly looking forward to eating as much as sightseeing. 3. My son is only able to eat limited table food like bread, soups, mash, fish. Would I have any trouble with choosing a restaurant? 4. We are leaving in 2 weeks time, how is the weather like there now? Would we need to bring winter jackets? 5. From VIA GAETANO TREZZA 49, should be rely on bus or train for travelling about? 6. We have a pushchair with us, can we take it on the bus? 7. Which is the nearest train station to VIA GAETANO TREZZA 49? Sorry for long request and thanks all. |

Hi,
the apartment in Via Trezza are ok, from there you can walk to historical downtown (about 600/800 meters) I try to answer to your question: 1) In verona you have a lot of things to see and to do, plan at least 2 days. There is a beautiful historical park near your house, named Giardino Giusti. From the house you can walk to the top of the hill over Verona, where you have another park named "colombare" with a good restaurant inside 2) Not so far from the apartmemt you have good small restaurant: trattoria all'Isolo, abt 300 meters; Osteria al Duca, about 700 meters. There is a pizzeria too near the street but I don't know it 3) No problem, the small restaurant (named Osteria, Trattoria) and Pizzeria are able to prepare something for the little boy 4) yesterday the temperature was abt 24 degrees, today around twenty. You need something for the early morning/late afternoon/evening 5) there are bus stops near your house but Verona is small. If you don't have a car you can take the bus to the railway /bus station (in the same square) and from there you can go to Garda Lake by train or bus (abt 20/25 km) 6) yes, no proble. Ask tourist office (Piazza Bra) for weekly pass (really I don't know, I use my bycicle or I walk since I'm living near downtown and near Gaetano Trezza street) 7) The main railway station is Verona Porta Nuova, where all trains are stopping. From there you can take a taxi or a BUS If you need more info please write me. Have a nice stay in Verona Giorgio

Trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local on the day variations.
This information should be used as a guide only. Here is the average weather for Verona for this time of year. Enjoy your holiday. April High 63f / 17c Low 45f / 7c Rain 2.71in / 68.8mm

Well, Giorgio is the real expert... Actually, his very nice house is quite close to via Trezza... Ciao Giorgio!
You will find the buses (can't remember the #) to the Porta Nuova Station (where you can find all the necessary train and province bus coonections in Viaa XX (venti) settembre, just south of Via Trezza (follow vicolo Longo or vicolo Storto)... Enjoy!

Just to add- from my experience with taking babies around Italy-
It may be the best Country when it comes to getting simple food for the young ones- you should be able to find in any restaurant/osteria/trattoria, simple fresh bread, bread sticks (grissini), right away for your son to start with. They are usually always willing to fix up a simple pasta with no sauce, or maybe a little olive oil. Many places will have a mild soup/minestra also great for your son. You may also however want to consider some small baby food containers to keep with you just in case! The Italians are incredible with kids, We are very happy raising our 3 here. And the Veronese should be helpful and gracious- as witnessed by Francesco and Giorgio! The weather has warmed up a bit as of the last couple weeks, and should stay spring-like. A lighter/spring jacket will most probably be needed for mornings/evenings. ciao
