| Honduras | Vacation Aug 3- 14 Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 03:30 PM UTC
My 12 year old daughter and I would like to visit San Pedro Sula and Copan, But I would rather travel with a family or meet a friend to accompany us. We have stayed in hostels and such in Tikal and San Salvador, so we are familiar with customs of dress in small settings. This may sound weird. But I would like for us to see the ruins and city safely. There is a lot of beauty in Central America. and meeting a new family and friends make the trip so much better. I would not expect to freeload by any means.

you should go directly to the SPSula and Copan pages on VT and see if anyone is living in those destinations and message them directly. i don't think you'll have much luck doing it over the forum.

Copan is a lovely little town and considerably safer than other areas of town because of the presence of tourist-focused businesses, lots of other travelers, expats and the lovely locals. There will be plenty of other travels in Copan and you can easily meet up with people outside the Ruins to pool money together to pay for a guide-- really recommended at Copan since there is so much history to the site (versus the sheer magnitude of the ruins like you would have seen at Tikal) and the guides know a lot of fantastic information.
SPS is NOT a safe place and not particularly worthwhile as a travel destination. Having been to San Salvador, you are not green to traveling in Central American cities but is there a particular reason why you want to visit SPS?
