| Pisa | Travel from Pisa Airport to Florence Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 03:11 PM UTC
Hi, we are flying into Pisa late afternoon on a saturday. Our plan is to spend a few days in Florence and then head dow to Lago Trasimeno for a few days. (Looking at wedding venues in surrounding area)
We'll obviously need a car when we leave florence but wondered if it was easy enough to travel from Pisa to Florence by public transport and if it would be worth the savings on the extra few days car hire. Your thoughts appreciated! |

You can travel straight from the airport in Pisa to Florence by train. Go to www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html and enter "pisa aeroporto" for your starting point and "florence" for your ending point, and choose a Saturday in the near future (i.e., not more then 60 days out). You'll notice that there is a mixture of trains that are direct (i.e., at least one carriage goes all the way to Florence and trains that require a change at Pisa Centrale (Pisa's main train station, about 5 minutes away from the airport).
Once you are in Florence, I believe that there are a number of car rental places near the main train station (Santa Maria Novella), so when you're ready, you can pick up the car and drive straight out of town to the A-1 towards Rome - see www.viamichelin.com for driving directions... Bill

My wife and I went to Florence from Pisa by train in October .
Very regular service, takes about 50 minutes and you are slap bang in the middle of the city . cannot remember the exact cost but something tells me it was less than 5 euros each for a return journey . Very cheap and the trains ( unlike the UK ) run on time . Have a great holiday, you will love Tuscany .
