I carry my asthma medication in and out with no problem. It's available over the counter in Dubai.

Asthma controling medication and vitamin supplements are not among restricted medication!! You can carry both without any worry :-)

There have been a number of incidents recently where tourists and expats in Dubai found themselves in serious trouble over what most outsiders would consider perfectly innocent drugs. Make sure you have prescriptions for everything and don't bring anything you don't absolutely need.

In case of any doubts for certain medication, it's probably best to get in touch with your embassy inside the UAE, or a UAE embassy in your home country.
Better check with the "officials" in any case.

It's mainly the opiate based drugs (Codeine, Tramadol, Diclofenac etc)that are banned without a written letter of authorisation from your doctor. These must also be in the original packing with prescription label still attached.
I have taken asthma inhalers into the UAE several times without any problems. Indeed, I would guess that with the levels of humidity, heat and dust being so high in the summer, asthma inhalers should be carried by almost everyone!
