| Singapore | Is day trip to Malaysia worthwhile? Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 08:51 AM UTC
My wife and I will be in Singapore for a couple of days in early July. We've read about day trips to Malaysia from there and were wondering if anyone who has been on one of these trips can advise us whether it was worthwhile and what it cost.

if it is not a weekend, getting across to JB would be the highlight of a trip to Singapore since Malaysia is far more varied, culturally dynamic and not sterile. you could travel by bus to the border, about 1 usd, then spend the day in JB and also have a nice meal while you are there. There is a very good museum there and everything is within walking distance. I highly recommend you to visit JB

I did a day trip to Johore Baru, wasn't too bad at all. Saw many of the usual places, had a lovely meal. I think it cost about $S45 (18 months ago) You can go further into Malaysia too for a long day tour.
If I was doing it again I would catch the bus by myself though and wander around JB when I got there, would be cheaper and I wouldn't be so restricted. You can easily spend a couple of days sightseeing in Singapore though, there are lots of places to go and things to see, and if you've never been to Singapore before enjoy it, see it all.... Have a nice time Cheers

hi,
msia is definitely cheaper than sg, food is usually half e price than in sg. bus 170 will take u into johor and it'll cost u only S$1.70. depending on whether u wanna travel further in msia too. johor itself has many interesting things to do tho it might entail a bit more traveling, fishing villages, trekking, horseback riding etc. if u wanna travel further to melaka or kl u can take 170 to larkin bus station (the last stop) and fr there there are coaches to other parts of msia. it should cost around rm24 for u to get to kl. it'll take around 3-4 hrs depending on the bus drivers and the number of stops which are usually for the driver and passengers to use e bathrm or buy some food. msia really has plenty of activities. would definitely recommend u to take a short trip there. only a 1 km bridge separates sg and msia but we're both soo different. i think it should be quite an interesting trip, to see e differences. in my opinion :) hope u enjoy yr stay here!
