Vienna Plane, Hydrofoil, Train or Coach from Budapest to Vienna
Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 06:49 AM UTC
What would be the best way to get to Vienna to see as much as possible.
Fly and then see more in Austria? Who is the best and cheapest airline?
Take a leasurely cruise along the Danube to Vienna, but hydrofoil seems the only way, takes 5.5 hours and 85 approx. euros.
Train seems to take a lot less time at 3.5 hours, do you see a lot of the wonderful country? Seems like value for money.
Coach I still have not looked at, as I found this wonderful site in the mean time.

We went from Vienna to Budapest by train and it was quite a nice journey, considerably cheaper than the hydrofoil.

Hi We took the hydro foil ferry from Budapest to Vienna and enjoyed the trip, very interesting going throug the Danuble lockes as you approach Vienna. If you want a sample of European river cruising then take the ferry.Photos on my Vienna or Budapest pages.

Good Luck,
Mike

Remember, the ferry does not run during the European winter.

Hi,
if you are not into the river-cruises, train is definitely the best way: plane takes 40 minutes, plus at least 90 minutes advance check-in, waiting for disembarking and another 45 minutes for getting to Viennas city center.
Coach is another option, takes about the same as train-travel.The sights will be the same!
