| Venice | Flying to Rome from Venice Posted: Thu April 3, 2008 04:16 AM UTC
Hi everyone!
Please advise me! I am going to Venice and Rome in June (Venice first and then Rome) for only few days, for saving some time, I will fly to Rome from Venice, which domestic airline should I take? There are 2 airlines I can see: Alitalia and Air one, are they alright? Their cost is very similar to a train ticket, but it takes only 1 hour! Thanks! |

You would need to take into account getting to the airport (outside Rome), check-in time, luggage retrieval and transfer from airport to Venice itself. I would think that will (almost) equal train travel.

I would also suggest Trenitalia rather than taking a flight. With train you will be in the city both for Venice and Rome. However, for the flights, you have to travel to airport and then to the city. I used Trenitalia many times and it is very comfortable. Avoid Alitalia as they are experts on losing the luggages :)

I'll make it three votes for the train, for all the reasons stated above. You can get the Euro Star from Venice Santa Lucia at 6.43 am which arrives in
Rome at 11.08am with no changes. How easy is that? If you fly you will have to be at the airport at least an hour before departure, then you will be in the air for an hour and will have to wait to retrieve your luggage in Rome and then find transport into the city. It won't be any quicker than 4hrs 25minutes, I can assure you. Get the train, you will arrive in Rome a lot more relaxed and ready to enjoy the eternal city.

oh yeah take the eurostar - it is way easier - and way less hassle and time would be nearly the same - it's 40 minutes or so from Fuimicino to termini - a little less from Ciampino I think

Thanks so much to all of you for the advice! I change my mind now, I will catch a morning train , that's excellent, I can see more Italy by catching a train.
Thanks again!

Stay awake when going through Orvieto. It's an amazing view from the train.
