Yellowstone National Park Driving times and distances in Yellowstone and beyond
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 11:06 PM UTC
We will be staying at the Old Faithful Inn and have a mid-morning flight out of Jackson and were wondering how much driving time should we give it. Also how long would it take to drive from the Old Faithful Inn to the Lamar Valley to see the wolves and when is a good time to go to see them? Thanks for your information and advice.

Here's a link to a map we put together on our website. It shows mileages and ESTIMATED driving times between points. If you click on the white circles, it will show more detailed maps or pictures of that area.

You'll have a hard time getting to Lamar Valley early in the AM. Its about 60 miles to the turnoff to Lamar from Old Faithful. Its hard to tell how long the drive will take because the speed limit is 45 most places and you may encounter traffic jams anywhere. I think the time of year you go may be a factor too. We found the wildlife to be out longer in June than July before taking a siesta. Ask around when you're there where they see them and what time. Current information is always best anyway.

Its around 85 miles from OFI to the airport. Mostly at 45 MPH. The last 25 miles or so is 70 MPH. You'll have to be up pretty early. The airport is small and can get crowded.
