You'll have a hard time getting to Lamar Valley early in the AM. Its about 60 miles to the turnoff to Lamar from Old Faithful. Its hard to tell how long the drive will take because the speed limit is 45 most places and you may encounter traffic jams anywhere. I think the time of year you go may be a factor too. We found the wildlife to be out longer in June than July before taking a siesta. Ask around when you're there where they see them and what time. Current information is always best anyway.
Its around 85 miles from OFI to the airport. Mostly at 45 MPH. The last 25 miles or so is 70 MPH. You'll have to be up pretty early. The airport is small and can get crowded.
