Nice Travel time in car from Nice to Cannes and Monte Carlo
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 11:01 PM UTC
Does anyone know how long in the car it will take to get from Cannes to Nice and from Nice to Monte Carlo?
We will be traveling around the week of April 19th. We are going to the tennis tournment on Monday, April 20th in Monte Carlo and our hotel is in Cannes.
Also, what time of day is traffic the worst?

Thanks in advance

It would indeed depend on the traffic as it is a very busy corner of the world. On a good day however, Cannes to Nice whould take (if memory serves me correctly) about 30-40 minutes. I've only done Nice to Monaco by train and that is about twenty minutes (I think!!!) By car would probably be longer.
As I said these times are based on my aging memory, but I'm sure someone who has done it recently or who has a better memory will soon correct me. Enjoy the Cote d'Azur!

The trip from Cannes to Nice is 41 km, and from Nice to Monte Carlo is 21 km.

In theory this should take no more than an hour or so. Be sure you take the Autoroute (the A8 / E80). Do not take the "scenic" coast highway (N98). It is really a long narrow parking lot most of the year. We avoid this road (N98) like the plague. If there were no traffic, it would be lovely but after swearing one July we would never drive it again, we were foolish enough in a November trip to think being out of season would clear the road. Not so . . . It took hours to get from Golfe Juan to Nice. Train travel is highly recommended here.

Unless you have arranged parking, you might seriously consider the train to the tennis tournament. Just a thought as I have no idea of train connections in Cannes. Hopefully someone who knows the area public transportation will answer here.

The Autoroute should be fine. Cars will zip along unless the traffic is extremely unusual such as Bastille Day or start of summer vacances. In April you should be fine.

I know both Cannes and Monte Carlo are very tight on parking - the suggestion to take the train is a good one. Monte Carlo is a small area and it would be easy to take a taxi from the station to the tennis tournament.

www.viamichelin.com gives you a route map and route description.
When you use the scheduler, use Options to put in the stopover Nice.
Once you get your result, click the little arrow behind Route Type (this will standard be set to Recommended by Michelin). You can choose quickest, economical (non-toll), scenic, etc.
In any case: this will give you alternative routes and maps which seem sensible, given the previous advice about heavy traffic!
