Hi. I am travelling around South America very soon however I only have one full day in Rio de Janeiro.

I would really like to visit Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf mountain. is it possible to do this "properly" in a day?

If you only had one day and night in Rio what would you do?

it's doable and not a bad choice if you only have one day.

Yes its possible to do both in one day. You can take a taxi to both. The only issue may be the weather. If its cloudy then the chances are the Christ the Redeemer statue will be in the clouds. Its still worth the trip for the train ride up and the view of the statue itself, you'll just be dissapointed with the view from it.

no problem and very common. easiest with taxis. you can have a car wait for you the and take you to the next stop and then back home. make sure to negotiate a price ahead of time and pay at the end. also your hotel should be able to arrange this and there are tours that go to both.

i suggest going to sugarloaf 2nd because the sunset there is really spectacular.

At night, I would recommend going to one of the live samba clubs in Lapa, perhaps Carioca da Gema, a smaller intimate club, or Scenarium.

I would also recommend going to dinner at a churrasqueria (Maria's comes to mind, I think it's in Copacabana....)...delicious meats. Very Brasilian.

Nothing more to add to the others' comments....Christ and the Sugarloaf are very do-able, provided the weather cooperates. You'll get stunning photos.

Yes, you can do both easily in one day (with taxi) and i think the best is going in afternoon, and in the morning can be a good choice go to Ipanema Beach.
At night dont miss a walking in Copacabana Beach (calçadão de Copacabana).

Go to Christ and after Sugar Loaf.
By morning go to the beach (Copacabana or Ipanema).
By night, after a short walk in Copacabana beach, go to one samba club in Lapa, maybe Rio Scenarium, Carioca da Gema or Lapa 40 Graus
