Maldives Advise on island choice
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 04:38 PM UTC
Hi,
we are planning on going to Maldives for the first time in july, and we want:
Water villa, beautiful surroundings, a decent dive centre, a couple of restaurants, and not lots of children around. Any tips?
We will be looking to combine with a 1 week liveaboard so islands connected to that is interesting.
Thanks,
Berit

I do not know if it has any connections to a liveaboard, but I really enjoyed my stay at Kuramathi and it would tick all your other boxes. Feel free to check out my Maldives page for further information.

I think beautiful surroundings is standard fare in the Maldives, so you shouldn't be disappointed in that respect. The views out of the plane window as you fly over numerous islands approaching Male airport is unforgetable. Make sure you get a window seat.

Although I travelled with 2 children, we were by far in the minority. In fact coming back from the Maldives we were the only family travelling on the plane back to Dubai.

We stayed at the Laguna Beach resort which is only a 40 minute boat trip south from the airport and we were very impressed with this island. You will certainly have the choice of water bungalows or opt for land villas only a short distance from the water's edge. The resort has its own dive centre and has 5 restaurants including Chinese, Italian, BBQ and a la carte.

You will be able to walk round the complete island in approx 15 mins and the capital Male is within easy reach for a day trip. I'm not too sure about the "Livaboard" option. I believe this is a boat which tours the various islands. There was certainly a boat anchored off Laguna for a night when we were there.

You can check out the Laguna resort on www.lagunamaldives.com

I hope that the above is useful.
