| Dubrovnik | Getting to Cilipi Airport from Montenegro Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 10:46 AM UTC
I've already asked this in the Montenegro forum, but guess I might also get answers here...
My flight leaves at 14:30 on Friday from Cilipi Airport...and I'm sitting in Tirana at the moment! Not ideal...so it looks like it will be a race across Montenegro to get the flight. My question is...are there buses from Herceg Novi or Kotor to the airport? Or do I have to go straight to Dubrovnik and double back to the airport on another bus? The answer may affect my travel plans for tomorrow (overnight in Montenegro or in Dubrovnik...) Thanks for any answers :@p Maykal |

Hi--you helped me with some Tunisia questions, so I hope I can help. (By the way, I got a great deal on Turkey tickets, so Tunisia will have to wait.)
There is supposed to be a daily morning bus from HN to Dubrovnik at 9:30, but double check that because these things are notorious for change. This timetable (http://www.libertasdubrovnik.com/) strangely shows arrival times, so you have to work backward to figure out the time they leave Montenegro. I agree with the previous poster to stay in HN the night before rather than Kotor, so you don't have to stress about getting to the airport, plus the Kotor bus is super early (and in my experience subject to cancellation). Any bus from Kotor or Herceg Novi will pass by the airport on the way to Dubrovnik, so you could ask them to drop you close by (it is not far from the main road). Cilipi is just about in between Dubrovnik and HN. Even if you have to pay for a taxi from HN to Cilipi, the savings from staying there instead of Dbv should balance out. Hope that helps.

Wow, thanks a lot for all that! It's good to know I don't have to go into dubrovnik and back out...I'm in Shkodra, Albania at the moment, waiting for a mythical minibus over the border to Ulqini to turn up, and hopefully will find a bus from there heading up the coast to Herceg Novi...
thanks a lot...and I'll let you know if I get there or not! :@p

Well, I nearly didn't make it, but that was Albania's fault! If only Albanian towns had bus stations or some sort of bus information, I might have seen a bit more of Montenegro by daylight.
I got to Herceg Novi just before midnight, and left this morning on the 9.30 bus. Apparently the Montenegrin company is not allowed to stop at all once inside Croatia, so all passengers had to go straight to Dubrovnik bus station...it was very frustrating at the time, passing the airport gates and not being able to get off, but in hindsight, at least I got to see the amazing coastal views of Dubrovnik old town...no substitute for walking around the town, but better than nothing at all. Almost missed the airport bus...had half an hour to wait, but had no Croatian Kuna, only Euros, which the man at the ticket office would not accept...and the bus station currency exchange counter was closed as the girl had gone off on a coffee break...so there was a bit of excitement involved trying to find a bank before the bus departed, but it all ended well... so thanks for the info once again :@p

Glad it worked out--and good to know that the buses won't stop, since that was my suggestion.
I'd say that view of old town was worth the hassle.
