i am arriving in cusco on a saturday and staying until tuesday.i wish to take a train to machu picchu that monday.my question is,will the agency that sells the train tickets be open on the weekend?thanks!

It's a good concern. You may want to confirm this with the travel agency beforehand as they may or may not be open. If they're not, perhaps they can just arrange to leave your tickets at your hotel/hostel in Cusco? Goodluck & enjoy beautiful Peru!

I've tried purchasing my train tickets beforehand via the Peru Rail website and had difficulty with it. It doesn't appear that I'm alone with this problem as it also has happened to other VT members before. I found out about this through one of the discussions here in the Travel Forums. As suggested, go to the train office upon your arrival that weekend or better yet why don't you try to have your hotel/hostel purchase it for you in advance to secure your MP adventure. That's what I actually ended up doing & worked out best for me. Other VT travel members called Peru Rail from their respective countries & confirmed their reservations upon arrival in Lima before going into the office to pay for the tickets. Again, Goodluck & enjoy beautiful Peru!
