As safe as any other place in Ireland/UK; you should not be concerned about that aspect.
As for nightlife/activities you'll find plenty organised by Limerick uni as well as what is available in the city. You will automatically be a member of the Students Union (this is the case with all Irish/UK unis). Have a look at their website for current listings etc: http://www.ulsu.ie/index.php?categoryid=59 Students' Unions are brilliant places for help and advise of all sorts, as well as organising entertainment and events related to the university. there will also be a number of clubs which you can join, should you wish. There are 60 clubs/societies at Limerick uni: http://www.clubsandsocs.ul.ie/ from aikido to windsurfing, from drama to poker! www.visitlimerick.com will tell you about the city itself. You'll be able to visit many wonderful and beautiful places whilst you are in Ireland: I'd go for it!

My experience from 1993: it's better to share the house (like 'kwatera') with Irish students than with others 'exchangers' in the campus (also for your language). Also don't expect your deposit back for a student dorm.Limerick had quite enough night life for me that time (once neighbours even invited Garda on one our party -Spanish students were a bit loud hahaha).Limerick is a great place for visiting the best from Irish nature but not only(obviously West Coast is the most interesting part of Ireland). Is Wroclaw safe?
Cheers, Maciek

Hey ya,
I was a student in Limerick for three years (2002 - 2005) and had a great experience. Loved every minute of it and would go back in the morning if I didn't have to grow up and start working :) Ignore your first impressions of the city. It looks a bit drab at first but once you settle in you'll have a great time and grow to love the city. Night life in Limerick is good and the student unions in the universities and colleges there are good and are always organising new events and things to do. As for saftey, Limerick gets a lot of bad press but in the three years I spent in the city I never once witnessed any disturbances or violence. Its just like any other city. Take the usual precautions and you'll be fine. Best of Luck Brain

BTW the cost of living is quiet high in Ireland anyway but Limerick is not as bad as Dublin or Cork. Cost of rent is generally a lot lower than Cork or Dublin. (Between 60 - 90 a week is what you would be looking at depending on location and condition)
If you want some advice on good locations to base yourself email me and let me know what uni you're thinking of going to and I can get you some info. Here's the websites of the student unions of the three universities/colleges in Limerick http://www.ulsu.ul.ie/ - University of Limerick http://www.micsu.ie/ - Mary Immaculate College of Education http://www.lit.ie/student/sunion.html - Limerick Institute of Technology
