Nicaragua Travel Forum

Hi all,

A couple friends of mine and I are trying to decide if we should go to Nicaragua or Costa Rica this summer, around the beginning of July. We are 24 years old and want some adventure. I've heard so many great things about each country, but we are just not sure where to go for our 10 day trip.

Please please help us out and tell us where to go. We want to do some outdoors stuff, hiking, surfing, beaches, forest related activities.

Costa Rica is probably the most beautiful piece of property in all of Central America so it is hard telling you not to go there. However, for me Nicaragua has it beat hands down! The people are friendlier, it is by far cheaper, and most of all, it isn't like Disney on a crowded day! Costa Rica especially during high season may or may not turn your stomach? I struggled to find anywhere that I could be alone for five minutes without the squeels of tour groups and annoying students following behind me. Hey, that being said I was there for two months and did see some great stuff - just wouldn't go back. Nicaragua took me five months to leave and I would go back in a second. Good luck with your decision - its a hard one.

I have a friend in nica right now who is trying to get out. There is currently a strike on involving all transportation industry over gas prices. So, that definitely makes travelling within the country harder. I'm going to CR at the end of the month for 2 weeks and though it may not be as cheap, or uncrowded I prefer the idea of going somewhere were english is more common and there is less political turmoil. A lot of places are in off season rates and 2 weeks is costing me less that 1200 from Vancouver.
