| Copenhagen | Coming to Copenhagen Posted: Tue April 1, 2008 01:24 PM UTC
I'm arriving Sunday, April 6th, early in the morning and want to hit the ground running. I am coming for work Monday - Wednesday but will have time to sightsee on Sunday and possibly in the evenings the rest of my visit. I don't know if my Danish colleagues have any plans for me during the week so I wouldn't know until last minute if the evenings are open. Sunday is wide open from about mid-morning. First time there so want to do the typical sightseeing on Sunday and have already done much research. Any locals interested in tagging along / giving an introduction to Copenhagen?
Cachaseiro if you are reading this and have time, I would take up your offer for a beer or two. |

FYI, Claus is currently out of the country.
If you have intentions to see Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek - Sunday would be a good day to do that as it is free entry on a Sunday.

If you are arriving by train, you will be in the right place. Copenhagen is a walking-friendly city and there are many lovely things to see.
Stroget, five walking streets in the town center offer shopping, eating and drinking. Tivoli, is the Danish version of Disneyland, but I'm not sure if it will be open during your visit. The Little Mermaid is actually little and not too far to see. You can also see across the water to Sweden. The government buildings of Danmark are quite impressive to see as well as the homes in the residential side streets. Dragor, a small fishing village ten or fifteen minute taxi ride east of Kobenhavn, over the bridge, is really worth a visit. This village is fairytale charming and rich in Danish history.

as mentioned i'm out of the country right now (in mexico) but i will be coming to denmark this weekend, but will almost certainly have to go straight to west denmark for a buisness meeting and i son`t think i'll be in town until tuesday.
if you wanna meet up for a few beers then i'll be happy to do so. i'm still not sure when i will be in town, but let's stay in touch and see what happens. i'm online every day, also in mexico.

Claus,
Hopefully it works out. I am definitely in Copenhagen through Wed. night and my schedule looks pretty light thus far so I am up for something. I have a couple beer limit though as it doesn't settle the way it used to in my younger years. I'll keep in touch through this post? I expect I'll be traveling occasionally to Copenhagen. I'm already scheduled to be back in late June and will probably add some personal time to either end of that trip to see some more of Copenhagen / Denmark.

where will you stay in copenhagen?
if you are in the center it would be easy top meet up if i'm in town. like i mentioned i'm in mexico right now but it was a thing that came up with 11 hours notice and i had to cancel a bucket load of meetings in denmark for this week and i will have to try and make up for them in the coming week, but i think i should have time for a few pints.

Hey Claus,
I am interested in seeing some live music and came across a band called The Foals playing at Loppen Wed. night at 8PM for 100 kroner ($20 US). Took the myspace link and they sound pretty cool. If you are not interested or around, am I OK going alone? Probably take a taxi right to the club and back.

you are fine going alone.
loppen is a very nice venue in the hippie commune christiania and even if there was a bit of trouble at christiania yesterday you are fine there as long as you don't look for trouble (just like in any neighbourhood in copenhagen). i'll most likely be in copenhagen on wedensday though and would like to join you if possible.

By all means, come along.
The link to purchase tix is in Danish so I can't order ahead of time. Do you think we can wait to get tix at the door? If you think we should get them ahead of time, you can order yours online and I'll ask the concierge to order mine when I arrive. Better yet, I'll email them and see if they can do it now, unless you think it's OK to get them at the door? Let me know what you think.

Hi,
You are probably in for quite some coolish weather right now, so I suggest you consider seeing "Glyptoteket" - one of the most spacious and beautiful museums in Copenhagen, with a huge palm garden and spectacular rooms. Another must is the "Louisiana" - the museum for modern art north of town centre, situated right at the ocean and where you can really spend an afternoon in inspiring and gorgeous surroundings. If you need more inspiration please check here: http://www.welcome-to-my-copenhagen.com/copenhagen_denmark.html Good luck Anders

I've been watching the weather. A little chill and some rain / snow I don't mind. Nothing worse than a cold rain but I am taking appropriate measures so I can be outside as mush as possible. A little snow mixing and or fog could make for a more interesting perspective of the city?
Thanks for the advice.

Sounds good. I'll be heading to the airport in an hour. I'll check back in late Sunday after what I hope will have been a whirlwind tour of Copenhagen.

I had a very succesful intro to Copenhagen today. Got to the hotel by 8 AM, got settled in, and was on the S tog to Osterport Station by 9. Walked all around and inside Kastellet, saw the Little Mermaid, Amelienborg, to Nyhavn, Kongens Nytorv, back to Amalienborg for the changing of the guard, pickled herring smorbrod and a Calsberg for lunch, Rosenborg, up Rundetarn, shopped on Stroget, walked along Straedet and Gammel Strand, over to Christianborg, then all the way back along the harbor to Copenhagen Island. Also checked out Fisketorvert before it closed.
Weather was great for touring. Nice nip in the air and just a light sprinkle around 3. As we say in America though when we are on our feet too long, "My dogs are barking!" so dinner was in the hotel at the Harbour Restaurant. Nice quiet ending to a great day! If my feet recover, tomorrow night- Norrebro.
