| Nice | Airport bus safety Posted: Tue April 1, 2008 01:11 PM UTC
Hello,
I have finally got sick of taxi service and would try the bus. Is it safe to ride airport bus at about 10 – 11 p.m.? And 5 – 6 a.m.? Can they suddenly cancel a bus early in the morning? What about the luggage – it isn’t supervised, is it? Does it often disappear? Thanks! |

I have *never* taken public transportation in Nice, only taxi's, but this is what I did about my luggage in Milan.
The bus driver stood outside the bus with all luggage compartment doors open. He was talking to several people asking questions about the shuttle. Lots of people all around, *not* all of which planning to take the bus. I decided to ask my husband and his brother to go inside and secure a seat - I stayed outside to watch the luggage until the bus left and the doors were closed. I knew there was only one stop in a different terminal, at which time I came out and watched again. Now, I don't know if these doors were locked - but I did as much as possible about the luggage. Normally I try not to arrive so late or leave too early to avoid the problem of safe transportation - particularly since my husband can no longer travel and I travel alone.

I have never taken a taxi anywhere; I only use buses/trams/Metro (and my feet).
I have never had any worries whatsoever about my luggage safety, nor about my personal safety (especially on an airport bus). You don't usually put your luggage in a separate compartment on an ordinary bus anyway, and I'm pretty sure luggage compartments lock when the vehicle is moving (though this may be fantasy). I'm sure you will be absolutely fine.

Moscow, airport bus has no saftey or crime issue at all. It is rarely full. and the physical presence of the driver makes it a lot more secure than the trains at night. They start early and finish late. I always use bus - unless its the 50 minute wait between the last at Midnight-ish and the one before at eleven-ish Its a long wait - I see if anyone wants to share a cab.

Airport buses are different. For instance, the bus running off the airport in Barcelona keeps the luggage inside. The bus that goes from Milano Centrale to Malpensa does store luggage below (they don't want you taking luggage in the coach) - and although the driver made a valiant effort, he had too many distractions and there were too many people wondering around the bus.
Now please realize I border on being a bit paranoid, so leics is probably right ;=)

Can only say I've never had any problems, and have never been aware of anyone else having them when I've been travelling (on airport buses).
If you are really, really worried why not just hover by the luggage copartment until the driver is ready to go? You can always leave your coat on a seat to save it for yourself.........

Thanks for help!
I am afraid I have become a bit dumb after a long nasty winter, though. I was actually going to ask whether the airport bus in Nice has a separate luggage compartment, as long-distance buses with high instep do? Or, since it actually is a city bus, which stops every other minute, do the passengers bring their luggage into the cabin and hopefully leave with it – that’s what I remember of London and Paris airport buses, though it was a decade ago. In general: did anyone have any problem with the Nice airport bus and of what kind? Since one may have very different concepts of what a problem is I remember from my days as a travel guide that whenever an excursion bus arrived half a minute late it was a very big problem with my tourists from the civilised world. Probably they are much more lenient at home…
