Sukhothai Sukhothai in a day?!?
Posted: Tue April 1, 2008 07:49 AM UTC
I was wondering if this itinerary sounds feasible in one day?

Bus from Chiang Mai to Sukhothai (what is the earliest bus time?)I understand the trip takes 3 hours?
Tranfer to old city (from where, how & how long does it take?)
Hire bicyle & ride around ruins
Transfer back to Sukhothai (from where & how?)
Transfer by bus to Phitsanulok (from where & how long will this take?)

We want to go from Sukhothai to Phitsanulok to catch the early morning train to Ayuthaya. Does the above sound like the best way or is there a better way to get from Sukhothai to Ayuthaya?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

The easiest way to get to the ‘Old’ City from ‘New’ Sukothai is Songtaew – the fare is around 10 Baht from Jarot Withithong Road near the Yom River. (will take about 20 minutes).

The bus ride from (new) Sukhothai to Phitsanulok takes about 1 hour. I suppose buses from other cities will arrive/depart from the main bus station.

See for map (with the two bus stations) of (new) Sukhothai:

The visit to Sukhothai Historical park on 'our' bikes was one of the highlights of our Thailand visit. See for more info and some pics: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/797/4/18da6b/

happy travels

I personally would not put all that in one day. If you want to see the major sites in Sukhothai Historical Park you can easly spend a whole day biking arround. There is 21 historical sites within the gates (old walls) and additional 70 sites within a 5 km radius. For example Wat si Chum( 11.30m sitting Buddha) as one of the more famous sites is located outside the walls and should not be missed. There is two ticket kinds: One for within the walls and another one for the outside ones.
