Kyyivs'ka Oblast' VODKA/WHISKEY/WINE-Where to buy and which is best
Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 08:26 PM UTC
Where can I buy one bottle each of vodka and whiskey and wine in Kiev?

Also could you suggest which brand is good?

I will be taking this as souvenir. Even if its bit higher priced no problem.

Nemiroff pepper or honey and pepper vodka was th souvenir of choice when we were there, served iced cold, and chew down some pickled gherkins before drinking in one!

For a whiskey consider Hankey Banister, Scotch single malt, seems to be export only - I have never seen it in Scotland

Wine - 101 different options, Ukrainian and Georgian. Happy tippling!

Look at Nemiroff "Mossberry on Cognac". It's 40%. Sweet and tasty, i tried it a couple of years ago.

Also look for vodka in souvenir bottles.
I remember only "Hlibna Slyoza" (White souvenir bottle which looks like ancient hand-made glass with small bubbles, there is large brown decorative seal on a bottle)
Other brands (i see such in supermarkets constantly) in porceillan bottles which looks like cossaks, churches and so. I never tried such so i cannot tell how it's taste.

About cognac. Probably brand "Tavria" is good - Askania, Dnipro, Oriana, Kahovka and others. Never tried them too but this are respected local brand. some of "Tavria" cognacs are very expensive.

Look all of those in solid big supermarkets. I'm sure that you'll find at least "Tavria" cognac in every big supermarket.
Sometime expensive alcohol drinks (cognacs, wines and so) can be locked in glass closet somewhere near cash-desks.
