Jakarta Hello Jakarta, I am coming!

Thank you KiloFox, Astene and Sukalejong for your responses to my earlier questions. It looks like I am coming to visit Jakarta for a week soon. Except this time without the kids who I brought 4 years ago. No more Anchol water parks and pizza huts for a change. But I have a few questions: I have been reading about Block M in south Kakarta. Alot of nightlife for singles, is that correct? Are there good hotels there? Is the area safe for walking? How late do night spots remain open? Also, I read about police check points, copies of passports needed and so forth. What is this crab? Do the police check on you when you are walking or in a taxi? And if they do, why? Or is it just for the locals? And again, why? I never saw that four years back. Not even once. Or was I just lucky? Info on this and especially decent hotels in the district will be appreciated. Thanks again.

Hi,
1. Night life in Blok M: There are some of Japanese and Korea bar/niteclub, but the visitors not only Japanese or Korean guy. I saw kaukasian a couple time.
2. Another hotel in Blok M area is Amaris Hotel in Jalan Melawai Raya. It's rate, I think, start from Rp 300.000/night.
3. Safe walking in the night. I think in the night bar/niteclub area is safer than bus station and shopping area. Because at that time almost the activities in going in that place, while shopping/bus station have been deserted.
4. According to rule, niteclubs should end their activity at 2 am. But in reality the party still going until 5 am...;D
5. Sometime police and narcotic board do a raid to search for drugs and narcotics. They will frisk all the visitor. So dont forget to bring your passport or ID card.
6.Sometime police do a raid in street, looking for drugs/narcotics, guns, weapons. Ussualy they do this to prevent crime (robery). The raid ussualy is held at 1-5 am, and they stopped the vehicle randomly
7. You never experienced it 4 years ago because you were lucky, or you never went out that late and never visited certain places. Normally the raid is held near night life area and certain streets.
I hope this help you to know Jakarta nowadays
Cheers
