| Fiji | Fiji trip in October Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 07:42 PM UTC
My wife and I are thinking about planning a trip to Fiji this October. We will be travelling with a few single friends. We know nothing about Fiji and are just beginning our research. We were wondering what part of the islands are best that time of year weather wise, and we also want to know where there is good nightlife for the single friends to meet guys/girls. Any insight will help.

The only real place where you might find some night life in Fiji is in the main city when you land, Nandi I think.
Caution, their is a lot and I mean a lot of crime. Though in all fairness, we did not stay in Nandi but we did read the Fijian newspapers and it was shocking how much crime their is, both violent and non violent. With going with a few people I recommend getting a guest house with caretakers who will cook and clean and do all the little odds and ends. We stayed at Taveuni Island at a rental house called house of the moon. A bit expensive and certainly no night life their. I would see if you can find anything on the surfer spots though, I would imagine your friend may have some luck their picking up on other tourist and I would bet the surfers are partying but that is not our thing so I have no advice on that. Enjoy your trip. bula!

Stay away from Nadi. By the looks of the township, there isn't much in the way of night life on offer. I noticed only one rather shabby looking night club there.
Perhaps, head to one of the islands that caters for backpackers. I didn't stay at a backpackers, but a friend of mine did and had a ball with other backpackers.

Trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local on the day variations.
This information should be used as a guide only. Here is the average weather for Laucala Bay, Fiji for this time of year. Enjoy your holiday. October High 82f / 28c Low 71f / 22c Rain 9.21in / 234.0mm Sun % 19

You might want to check out Beachcomber Island: http://www.beachcomberfiji.com/. I stayed there in 1994 and had a good time. It's a very small island, but they offer a lot of activities and you can go on daytrips to nearby islands. It's known as the party island - Reviews are mixed: check out reviews here on VT (search for beachcomber island under keywords) and on tripadvisor.com

The real question is where you will be staying in Fiji.
If your out on one of the islands then your pretty much restricted to what the resort has to offer. Most resorts, have there own bar and night life peculiar to themselves. If your in and around the Nadi area, for example on Denerau Island, then the choice for nightlife is a bit large, with the various hotels/resorts to choose from to go to. However, word of caution though, steer clear of some of the local night clubs within Nadi town. They can become unsafe at the best of times, one too many drinks and people do strange things, if you know what I mean. However, that been said Nadi is a tourist orientated town so there is things to do. If your in the coral coast region, say for example the Naviti Resort, Fijian Resort etc, then again your limited to those places. The coral coast is halfway between Nadi and Suva, about a 1-2 hour drive out of Nadi. The nearest main township is Singatoka and that is a sleepy town at the best of times. If your in Suva, which is probably unlikely, whichever nightclub you go to be extremely cautious. There are various nightclubs for various people and tourists are not really in that mix. So in Suva you will be mostly with a local crowd. Which can be great and also not so great. I hope that doesn't scare you too much. But given the current political/economical situation of many of the locals crime has been increasing. So as a tourist you should seek the protection that the tourist areas offer you. Hope this helps.
