| Sharm El Sheikh | Transports or tours from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo and Luxor ?? Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 06:01 PM UTC
hiya,
I am going to Sharm El Sheikh for about a week and want to visit Cairo and Luxor during the stay. I just want to have some advise abut different ways travel from Sharm to Cairo and Luxor. And is there's nice and cheap local one day tour to Cairo or Luxor? also I was think of renting a car but not quite sure if it's safe and easy to drive around especially those famous sightseeing places?? I would be very grateful if someone can offer some advises to me. Thanks!! Wendy |

WOW, you are going to Sharm for just one week....
Cairo is 6 to 8 hours away by bus, 4 to 5 hours by car. You could go for a flight to Cairo; it will be less than an hour, but checking in and out will not save you very much time compared to the drive. I don't know what you would like to do in Cairo, but to see the most popular sites I would reserve 2 days at least. Luxor is something different. You need to cross the Gulf of Suez to get there. There is a fast ferry between Sharm and Hurghada that will take you 1,5 hours. From Hurghada it is about 4 hours by car to Luxor. You can also opt for the flight from Sharm to Luxor. More expensive, but faster I guess. Luxor can be done in one day: early morning: West bank (Valley of Kings, Hatchepsut Temple, Collossi of Memnon, afternoon Karnak Tempel, early night Luxor Tempel. You will find in Sharm many travel agents to offer you this trips for various prices. Go and look for the cheapest and haggle for a good price! If you are with more than one person you can haggle the price down. If you are in a group of tourists ask them if they are interested in the same trips. The more the merrier! You can haggle a bargain!!! Your tour rep will offer this trips also. Don't go with them!! To expensive!! You were thinking of hiring a car and drive yourself??? OK in Sinai but in Cairo...... You don't want to drive there! Traffic is crazy! One of my best friends is a professional truck driver, on the road 5 days a week, 10 hours a day.. he refuses to drive a car in Cairo! Good luck, Dora.

Hi,
You will not see Cairo and Luxor in one week I have spent three weeks in Luxor and still not seen everything. The Valley of the kings, Valley of the Queens, Valley of the Artisans, and the Valley of the Nobles, (The Tombs of the nobles are in my opinion the finest in Luxor, Look at my Luxor page) The Ramesseum, Medinet Habu, (later to be used by the Christians) the Temple of Hatchepsut and the Colosis of Memnon, all found on the west bank. On the East bank you will find Karnak Temple, which itself will take at least half a day, (Get there early before the tour buses)The Temple of Luxor, (huge but only a fraction the size of Karnak)The Mummy Museum and the Luxor Museum Both well worth a visit. If you want to visit Luxor, It is worth at least a full week, and believe me it will blow your mind. Hope this gives you food for thought. If I can help in any way just give me a call. Regards, John.
