| Shanghai | Transport from airport to hotel and vice versa Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 12:00 PM UTC
Hi, We are a group of 6 ladies travelling to Shanghai end of Apr 08. I would like to know what's the best way to get from the airport to our hotel, Topsun on the Bund, on Huimin Road. Should we find a van large enough for us and our luggage to take us to our hotel or should we take the Maglev train to downtown station and then grab maybe 3 taxis for 3 of us to the hotel? What about departing for the airport from hotel?

Someone else asked a similar question down the page a bit. This was my answer below. If you have no trouble moving your own bags, this is a good solution. If you need help with bags, yes, get a mini bus. There are many people who offer one at the airport, they are just a bit expensive compared to taxi for an individual. Maybe the price is not so bad for a group.
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/1e4db/f4fc8/9/ This link talks about using the Maglev train to get to the Pudong side of Shanghai. From the terminal you can get a taxi to most of Sahngahi center out as far as Jing An district for 50 RMB. Total cost about 90 RMB, about $13 at today's exchange rates. It only runs until about 5:30 PM. If you take a taxi from the airport it is about 150 RMB or more, and it takes more time. The bus is really much cheaper, but after a day on an airplane, I want to get to my hotel fast, and a bus is not fast. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/1e4db/f4fc8/9/ This link talks about using the Maglev train to get to the Pudong side of Shanghai. There might be a van but you have to wait for a while.
I suggest you take two taxis, or a van if you are lucky enough.

Hi, Thanks for both replies. I think we'll take the mini van.

minivan is a good option for you travel from airport to your hotel as you have 6 ladies with luggage. You may try shangcar in Shanghai as we used their airport pickup service which is reliable.
