Kanchanaburi In A Day?
Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 04:28 AM UTC
I have one day to travel from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi & return. We arrive in Bangkok at 0910 (via train from Ayuthaya) and would catch the next available bus to Kanchanaburi & would like to see:
Thailand Burma Railway Centre Museum
Kanchanaburi Allied War Cemetary
Kwai River Bridge
World War II Museum
Jeath War Museum
Tiger Temple
Is all this do able or are there places you suggest over the others? What it the best way to see all this in the time that we have?
I understand the last bus runs back to Bangkok at 8pm however we have a train to catch at 1050pm from Bangkok to Surat Thani so would need to leave Kanchanaburi by I'd say 6.30pm at the latest?
Thank you for your help!!

It would be a push but if you hired a driver at Kanchanaburi you might just get quick visits in at all places. Most are close together.

The Tiger temple is about 30 min's out of town from memory, and you would need at least 45 min there depending on the crowd and if you want to touch the tigers, so that would be a bit of time taken up.

Be careful of bus timetables, we didn't have problems - except that we got on the wrong bus heading back to Bangkok and ended up at the Southern bus station instead of the northern so a hassle then to get to where we neeed to be. The bus was very slow once it hit the city traffic too.

Have a good day

That seems to be a lot for a day! Im afraid that with the traffic and all you might not get to see it all. Best you narrow it down to 2 or 3 so you wont be dissapointed

i think it's not possible in one day.
you need the bus from bangkok ( southern- bus station) .
Train station-southern bus station 1 houre )
the bus from southern-bus station to kanchanabury (start all 20 minutes.)2.1/2 -3 hour .
you arrive in kanchanbury 1-2 pm
to the river quai bridge is a privat taxi faster. (stop for one houre)
next to the tiger temple .
you can touch the tigers betwen 3 and 5 pm.
back to kanchanabury ( bus station)
d'ont go back to bangkok
go to nakhon-pathom.
the train from bangkok to the south stop in nakhon- pathom

Thank you very much for all your help! I didn't consider the south/north bus station situation with any of my planned itinerary, so I will have to do a bit more research!

I think I will narrow it down to three things to do and hope for the best in fitting them in...

Many thanks once again!

Ok I have been working on my itinerary and was wondering if I catch the 0719 train from Ayuthaya to Bangkok (arriving 0910) I can then transfer from Hualamphong Station to the Southern Bus Terminal*
* Is it better to transfer by train for this to Thonburi Station from Hualamphong or catch a bus or taxi? (Aparently the southern bus terminal is next to the train station?)
When I get to the southern bus terminal I will catch a bus to Kanchanaburi. I will then go to Bridge of River Kwai & Tiger Temple (hopefully more if time permits)
At approx 6pm I will leave Kanchanaburi & catch a bus to Nakhon Pathom*
* How long does this trip take?
As I would then like to catch the 8.54pm train to Surat Thani

I look forward to hearing your advise.

This is not directly related to your question, but I think this report from Care for the Wild International is worthwhile to have a look before you visit the Tiger Temple. http://www.careforthewild.org/default_detail.asp?detail=true&I_ID=578&section=Home
