| Budapest | Budapest train travel Posted: Sun March 30, 2008 07:48 PM UTC
Hi
We are planning our trip to Central Europe . Part of our plan is to travel from Budapest to Sarajevo and then on to Croatia. I'm thinking the train is the best option . So far it looks like it would be about 12 hours to Sarajevo . Would travelling to Croatioa be a better option giving us better connections . We will be flying back via Vienna. Thanks |

The direct train is the quickest option by rail to Sarajevo, so travelling there via Croatia would be slower. However, travelling to Croatia, it's much faster to do it directly, without going via Sarajevo.

If not inevitable necessary, I do not suggest the visit to Sarajevo, due to the present political situation in Serbia. Furthermore the annihilation of landmines in Bosnia has not been completed yet, Foreign visitors are advised to exercise caution due to the ongoing threat of landmines.

Thankyou for your replies. We are considering skipping Sarajevo altogether as travel connections seem to be quite difficult .
WE definately want to go to Split so mayne a side trip to Mostar can be arranged.

OK. I am sure there are day excursions from Split to Mostar.
By the way, the restoring works of the old bridge was started by Hungarian engineers and Mostar has got its name from the old bridge (most = bridge, stari = old ).
