Madrid A quick Question about Madrid
Posted: Sun March 30, 2008 04:57 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be in Madrid for a few weeks this summer about 5 or 6. I have an apartment in Pozuelo de Alarcon which is a suburb of Madrid (so I hear) I have been looking at the metro map and cant figure out how I can get to and from the city via the train system. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Pozuelo de Alarcon is not a suburb of Madrid, it is a satellite town outside the city and therefore not on the metro! You can see a map on here: http://www.hotelsfusion.com/Hotel/Pozuelo_Hotel_Pozuelo_de_Alarcon.htm
You will have to take a train (line C7 or C10) from/to Atocha or Chamartin, here is the website for the "cercanias": http://horarios.renfe.es/cer/hjcer300.jsp?NUCLEO=10.
Or if you go here http://www.ctm-madrid.es/servlet/RedTransServlet?xh_ACCION=1&xh_TIPO=5&xh_TIPOTRANSPORTE=11&CODPANTALLA=1&CODBOTON=104 and click on C7 then on "line diagram" you will see the map of that trainline.
There are also buses that go from Madrid to Pozuelo and http://www.ctm-madrid.es/inf_corporativa/inf_interurbanos.jsp (English button at top)

I looked at the Madrid Metro and found the following ... ok, in Spanish, will try to translate:
PARA VIAJAR EN METRO LIGERO OESTE
METRO LIGERO OESTE ES LA RED DE METRO LIGEROS EN LOS MUNICIPIOS MADRID, BOADILLA DEL MONTE, ALCORCÓN Y POZUELO DE ALARCÓN
Billete Sencillo Metro Ligero Oeste. 1 €

So ...
To travel in Light Metro West:
Light Metro West is the metro network of light metros in the municipalities of Madrid, Boadilla del Monte, Alcorcon, and Pozuelo de Alarcon.
Simple Ticket for Light Metro West is 1 Euro. Now it seems the 1 Euro is just within the Light Metro West area, so I speculate you will need to add the amount required to get there.

Here's the link (in spanish)
http://www.metromadrid.es/01_billetes_abonos.asp

You can click in Plano de Metro on the right, just get the PDF version, and to the left (west) you will see something saying Pozuelo Oeste - now I'm not sure if that's it ... but I ran out of time to look at the map. If I find a metro route planner I will repost.

http://www.metroligero-oeste.es/html/esp/itinerarios.html; 2 lines start from metro station Colonia Jardin (metro line 10), one of which stops at Pozuelo Oeste, don't know which would be a useful stop on the other. This is a separate company from the Madrid metro, apparently it has a single ticket price of €1.75.

Pozuelo is really big; and it isn´t easy to figure out how you will go to Madrid itself. Pozuelo has either local trains (Cercanias) -2 stations; El Barrial and Pozuelo-, Light Metro and buses stop all over the place, so you will surely have a bus stop just a few blocks away; just make sure where in Pozuelo your appartment is and I can help out telling you what is the quickest transport from where your appartment is.

pozuelo is out west on the new lines, time to say gran via is about an hour on the trains. YOu can take it at pozuelo oeste metro line 10 or ML2 to colonia jardin , stay on the rame for line 5 and take it at casa de campo. this lne 5 take you to GRan Via for example.

with a city metro map you will be ok. have a great time in Madrid and nearby.
