Hi,
I am visiting Irkutsk in October and would like to use a homestay while there. I have read that there are plenty of people waiting at the train station advertising homestays on signs and I don't need to try and book one in advance. Is this correct? Cheers Peter |

Do not try to do so.It is better to use a hotel.

Your homestay could be pleasant and comfortable if you know personally your landlord. All different options could be a source of risk.The level of life in Russia,especially far away from Moscow,is very low.Poor people sometimes could be dangerous.That's my opinion.Is there something interesting in Irkutsk,Peter?Baikal Lake?Bears?

You can try to use some homestay sites as HOFA for example for preliminary reservation))) At least you will know the people you will stay with in advance)
