There ARE no land buses in Venice! So no, you can only use it on vaporetti, but then there isn't any other public transport within the city to use it on (apart from the traghetti, which are a cheap way of going on a gondola if you just need to get from one side of the canal to the other). Where do you want to go, anyway?

P. Roma itself, yes, but you can't travel from there to anywhere else INSIDE the city by bus, only over the causeway to Mestre and onward, e.g. to the airport, Chioggia, Jesolo... That's why I asked where he wanted to go, since buying a vaporetto ticket would imply to me that the intention was to visit the city itself.
In fact, however, I now realise that the ticket referred to is probably an ACTV travelcard: and as ACTV run both vaporetti and land buses in the Venice region, it could be used, for example, to cover the vaporetto/motoscafo to Venice Lido and then on a (land) bus from the Lido to Chioggia. http://www.actv.it/english/automobilistico.php?pag

Well, it isn't Venice itself, but the ACTV company runs also all of the land lines in the whole "Comune", which includedes Venice, Marghera, Mestre and surrounding (airport too), and usually all inclusive multi-day ticket cover that also. Usuful if you are going to take an hotel in mainland.
