| Bologna | Bologna To Mugello Posted: Sat March 29, 2008 03:41 PM UTC
I'm flying into Bologna (Forli) Airport at the end of May to watch the Moto GP at Mugello and was wondering if anyone has any advice for the best method of travelling between the two places (Trains, buses ect) I also like the idea of perhaps renting a motorbike or scooter and riding to Mugello so I would love to know the location of the nearest rental shop to the airport.
Any help much appreciated :-) |

I take it that Forli ("Bologna" is a misnomer foisted on us by the discount airlines) is the closest airport you can use? I ask because Forli's airport is some 169 kilometers from Mugello by autostrada (through Bologna) and 93 kilometers from Mugello taking the back roads. Florence's airport is considerably closer...hmmmmn, Bologna's airport (NOT Forli) is probably closer, too. Have you seen the Autodromo's website at http://www.mugellocircuit.it/english/arrivare.htm ? You'll see that Forli didn't even make the list.
It looks like the website assumes that you are coming by car or motorbike, so they don't list any public transportation any closer than Florence. In any case, I wouldn't know anything about renting a motorbike or scooter; I thought I'd give you the opportunity to decide if you could come into a closer airport (or are the fares to Forli hard to beat?)... Hi Bill,
Yes- the fares to Forli were very hard to beat (£60 RTN) from Stansted inc all taxes ect so I just booked! Did'nt think I was so far away...bugger!! I read somewhere that it was only 100kms from Bologna! Oh well... Ryanair have a habit of naming airports that are close (in their opinion) but not actually in the city they say... looks like i've been caught out! I'm just heading there on a whim and see what happens when we get there i'm sure i'll find something....I hope!!!

Well, it IS only a 100 klicks to Bologna, but then if you go by way of Bologna (and the autostrade), it's another 70 or so to Mugello. The direct path from Forli to Mugello is 'only' 93-96 klicks, but along smaller highways and even footpaths (OK, not really). See www.viamichelin.com for different routings...
For the back country routing, enter "Via Seganti 103" as the address and "Forli" as the city of the starting point (this is the airport), and "50038 Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello" as the ending point...then pick "Shortest route" (or another option) and click Search. Still, if you rent the bike in Forli, maybe this back way would be quite scenic...I haven't driven in here myself... Bill
