Milan Early Malpensa Flight - is express or shuttle bus better?
Posted: Sat March 29, 2008 03:24 PM UTC
I will have an early flight and need to get to Malpensa around 6AM. Assuming I stay in Milan center, do both the Malpensa Express and the shuttle buses run all night? Besides the one hour trip to the airport, how often do the trains and buses run at night? Thanks.

The website for one of the 2 bus services from the main train station to the airport is at http://ticketonline.malpensashuttle.it/inglese/pagine/orari.cfm

Click on " Timetable MILANO - MALPENSA T1/T2 "

You should see a timetable that shows
S F M
* 2.15 2.30 3.05 <= only valid in the summer(?)
* 4.25 4.40 5.15
* 5.00 5.15 5.50
* 5.20 5.35 6.10
* 5.40 5.55 6.30
* 6.00 6.15 6.50
...
where "S" = main train station, "F" = the "fare" (convention center), and "M" = Malpensa Terminal 1.

The next question is how are you getting to the main train station...I don't know the hours of the Metro, but you may end up taking a taxi to the main train station in order to catch the bus.

Alternatively, if you are closer to the Cadorna station in the northwest part of the city center, you can take the Malpensa Express. This is a bus at
dep arr duration
04:20 05:10 50 m and at
05:00 05:50 50 m
and the first train leaves at 05:57 and arrives at the airport at 06:37. See http://www.malpensaexpress.it/website/malpensa_express/en/home/index.php

Note that the Malpensa Express is run by Le Nord, a private railroad, not Trenitalia, which does not have service to the airport.

The Malpensa Express at 0500 will get you there. Details/timetable on this link:

http://www.malpensaexpress.it/website/malpensa_express/en/home/index.php

Last train is 23:27, first is 04:20.

Bus information on:

http://www.sea-aeroportimilano.it/en/malpensa/index.phtml?mod=per_mi_scroll&to=come_arrivare

suggests that buses/shuttles do not run throughout the night, and that the first will arrive too late for your needs.

J, I see that the airport website says what you quoted, but I got suspicious, and when I drilled down to the website for one of the bus services, it appears that they actually now do run occasional buses through the night...the Malpensa Express at 5:00 a.m. is actually a bus instead of the train according to the LeNord website (but it runs from Cadorna station, too, but from a different location there, one presumes).
