I'm visiting friends in england and have decided to take a cheap flight up to Glasgow for just two days what part of town is the best to stay to have good access to nightlife, shops, restaurants?Price is less a concern than convenience(walking)and fun.

Somewhere in the Merchant City. Plenty hotels around there.

Hi
There are two options really, the centre of Glasgow - There are quite a few hotels and the pub scene is fun. Someone described to me as what Dublin was like before it became affluent. However, try the West End which is lively and has lots of great pubs and restaurants. See http://www.glasgowwestend.co.uk/

Anywhere in central Glasgow but probably the West End. The central core is not that big and you can easily walk.

Hawkhead is right the central core is not that big but if you centre yourself on the charing cross area ,you get all the fun of the west end of charing cross and the student bars/clubs/and casinos, the former being not just for students but is a reflection on the prices you will pay once you get inside. You can get a good value room at etap hotel 3 people in a room for £32 but it is a walk /taxi to the city or you could try www.american.glasgowhostel.pl ,rooms are same price as etap but its not ensuite but it has the huge bonus of a good well equipt kitchen and in the heart of the Charing cross area.

Definately the Centre. There are premier Inns and Hilton etc aplenty. I would not sta in the west end, but it is definately worth a visit, only a short ride on the underground. Staying central gives you acess to all the shopping of Buchanan St, Princes Sq etc.
